Background
Weather observation is centralised at the scale of a region, and rainfall is becoming more local than that. Pochak (捕捉, “capture”) proposes a decentralised layer alongside it: people capture the phenomena that precede a change in weather and feed them to a hyper-local forecast model.
What I made
Three sensors: Observer on the ground, Diver beneath the water, Chaser on a balloon into the stratosphere. All three carry the same Universal Meteorological Sensor and differ only in the housing. Petals fold over the lens when the sensor is idle.
The interface
The XR interface does four things: capture a phenomenon, upload it, watch others capture live, and get the forecast back.
Outcome
A two-person project, printed and assembled by hand. It showed at the degree show in October 2023 and at DDP in the Seoul Design Corporation's young-designer exhibition, and dezeen ran it that December.
